Abu Dhabi Schools Champions Celebrates 2021-2022 Season Winners

17,000 students participated from 155 public and private schools in Abu Dhabi

The Abu Dhabi Schools Champions 2021-2022 Season winning teams and best players were recognized at an Award Ceremony held on Saturday, June 25th, at Al-Jazira Club Dome in Abu Dhabi.

The award ceremony was attended by H.E. Sara bint Yousif Al Amiri - Minister of State for Public Education and Future Technology, H.E Dr. Mugheer Al Khaili Chairman of the Department of Community Development in Abu Dhabi, H.E Mohammed Khalifa Al Nuaimi, Member of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Talal Al Hashimi, Director of Sports Development Sector at the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, as well as other dignitaries and senior officials from the government and community members.

Abu Dhabi Schools Champions’ new season was launched by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council in partnership with the Emirates Schools Establishment, the Department of Community Development, Department of Education and Knowledge and Inspiratus. Amidst a wide student participation, with 17,000 students, from various school cycles, from 155 public and private schools in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Al Dhafra and 255 teams trained by 180 PE teachers in 5 sports, football, basketball, handball, volleyball and athletics. The initiative resulted in the discovery of 66 talents from various sports who joined Abu Dhabi clubs in the youth categories (47 players for Al Ain Club - 11 players for Al Jazira Club - 8 players for Baniyas Club).

At the award ceremony, team and individual winners of this season were crowned, the season’s best players were honored, and the Dream Team for the 2021-2022 season, comprising top talents in football and basketball from Cycle 3 were announced.


The winning school teams in the Football competition are: Abdul Qader Al Jazayri School, GEMS American Academy, Al Maharat Private School and Fatima Bint Mubarak. They will travel to a week-long training and entertainment camp in Manchester in the United Kingdom where they will and visit Etihad and Old Trafford stadiums. The winning school teams in the four other sports, which are Abu Dhabi International Mohamed bin Zayed Branch, Our Own English School, The Summit School, Model School, Institute of Applied Technology, Mohamed bin Zayed Branch, Al Taawun School and Dar Al Uloom, as well as students who won gold medals in athletics, will travel for a training and recreational camp in Madrid, Spain where they will visit Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.

Aref Hamad Al Awani, Secretary-General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said: "We are proud of the great success of Abu Dhabi Schools Champions this season, and the important role it plays in supporting the school sports program, with a sports initiative that takes place throughout the season and aims to engage the school community with activities and competitions aimed at encouraging students' activity and fitness and promoting positive habits alongside developing students' skills- which contributes to improving the physical activity of the student segment of society."

Al-Awani said: "We want to congratulate all participating male and female students on the great success of Abu Dhabi Schools Champions 2021-2022. We also want to thank our partners at Emirates Schools Establishment, the Department of Community Development, and Inspiratus for their continuous support of the initiative. We want to also thank all the administration teams of schools who participated in Abu Dhabi Schools Champions and everyone who contributed to the success of this outstanding schools sports initiative.”

Her Excellency Dr. Rabaa Al-Sumaiti, Director-General of the Emirates Schools Establishment, congratulated the students participating in Abu Dhabi Schools Champions for “excelling in the tournament, which will successfully elevate the students’ sports skills, and reflect positively on their educational, educational and social advancement.”

Her Excellency added that “Emirates Schools Establishment, in partnership with organizations such as Abu Dhabi Sports Council, attaches great importance to school sports due to their role in enhance students' skills, not only at the athletic level, but also academically. Physical education for public school students is one of the most important elements of a student’s education and that the Establishment is greatly focused on. It’s the foundation for students to adopt a healthy and healthy lifestyle, alongside its ability to discover and nurture talented students and the creation of a pipeline of sports champions who can contribute effectively to the national sports movement in the future.”
