More than 3500 runners participate in Das Island Run in preparation for the fifth ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon

Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) organised the Das Island Run as part of the build-up to the fifth staging of the ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon later this year.

Das Island is located 170 kilometres away from the capital city in the north-west region.

The races were run across over 2.5km, 5km and 10km distances, drew more than 3500 male and female community runners. Present at the event were Dr. Saif Sultan Al Nasseri Director, Group Human Capital, Suhail Abdullah Al Arifi, Executive Director of the Events Sector at Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Khaled Al Hosani, SVP Group General Services and a number of business, corporate and heads of sports federations in the country.

The Das Island Run is an initiative for the running community to participate in three race categories held simultaneously during the next edition of ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon.

It is also a continuation of the community sporting events and activities by ADNOC and ADSC with the objective to promote and develop a culture that includes sports in daily lifestyles.

On this occasion, Dr. Al Nasseri emphasised the staging of the Das Island Run as a continuation of social development and that the number of participants, which exceeded 3500, is evidence of the awareness created on the importance of sports and its benefits.

Al Nasseri said: “We are looking forward to the next ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon after the great successes we have had in the previous editions.

“The ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon has become a landmark among the community sporting events hosted by the capital city, Abu Dhabi."

Al Arifi confirmed that the large participation in the Das Island Run showcased the interaction of the Abu Dhabi community with the community races organised by ADSC.

“The goal was to further spread the sporting culture and make it part of an ideal healthy lifestyle for all members of society,” Al Arifi said.

“The Das Island is a significant promotion for the ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon in December.

“Our partnership with ADNOC is close and important because it plays a major societal role, not only within Abu Dhabi, but also in various regions of the Emirates.”
