The Abu Dhabi Sports Council launched the first edition of the UAE Tour Women, which is part of the only global race for cycling in the Middle East, from 9 to 12 February 2023, with the participation of 20 prominent women’s teams. The teams competed against each other over 4 stages, with the routes winding through the many unique landmarks and diverse locations in the UAE. 

The Tour represented a very important event for both cycling and women’s sports, as it was included within the main agenda of events organized by the International Cycling Union that cemented the increasing popularity of cycling in the region as well as worldwide. It also provided local sports enthusiasts with greater opportunities to experience world-class racing in the region.

The organisation of the UAE Tour Women was an outstanding success for the region, as the UAE has consolidated its position as a global center for cycling. The country had previously hosted bicycle races in the region since 2014, including the Abu Dhabi Tour and the Dubai Tour, which later merged into the UAE Tour. Hosting this event also confirmed the great strides made in developing cycling in the region, alongside efforts to promote professional cycling for women.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, witnessed part of the 2023 UAE Tour Women, the only global race of its kind in the Middle East. 120 of the best international women cyclists, from across 20 teams that were comprised of 13 international teams and seven continental teams, participated in the first edition of the tour.
